New On Broadway - Your Guide To "New On Broadway" Shows

New on Broadway for 2011 is as follows:

Wicked

Wicked has broken box office records around the world. A musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. and a book by Winnie Holzman. The story is based on a novel Gregory Maguire, a parallel novel of the film The Wizard of Oz and L. Frank Baum's classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It is told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz.

Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her struggles with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Several events for The Wizard of Oz are included as a back story. 

The Lion King
A musical based on the 1994 Disney film with music by Elton John.  The musical features actors in animal costumes as well as hollow giant puppets.  Characters include the Baboon Rafiki, King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi with their cub Simba.  A disney classic with a musical twist. 

Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark
A book by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The musical is based on the Spider-Man comics created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and published by Marvel Comics.

Despite the cruelest of reviews by critics.  The people that a seeing Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark are being blown away by its majesty.  This is the most expensive Broadway production in history.  Spider Man treads new ground on Broadway!

The Book Of Mormon
Two young Mormon missionairies set off to spread the word in dangerous areas of Uganda.  This is not a show for children with its inclusion of vulgar humor.  A must see outrageous musical composed by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Jersey Boys
Based on the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. Jersey Boys is a documentary-style musical, based on the lives of one of the most successful rock bands of the 1960's, the Four Seasons.  Explaining each group members perspective of the band from the creation, rise and eventual fall of the group.

The Addams Family
Addams Family put to the test when outsiders come to dinner, Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Fester, Grandmama and Lurch still in their infamous characters.

Sister Act
Disco diva Deloris Van Cartier is in protective custody where the cops hope she will never be found after witnessing a murder.  There is a hilarious mixture of  personalities in the convent and Deloris brings the choir to life.  

Catch Me If You Can
The true story of Frank Abagnale Jr., a world-class con artist who has pretended to be a doctor, a lawyer and a jet pilot all before the age of 21.   Catch Me If You Can is a bright and bouncy show featuring a topnotch cast and a sixties-influence. 

Rock Of Ages
Rock of Ages explores the pursuit of dreams and tells its story of rockers the 1980s era.  Big hair and big dreams!  High energy all the way through.

Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles
Rain performs the music of the Beatles live.  Rain is more like a concert experience, it is laid back and the atmosphere is not that of a traditional Broadway show. Dancing and clapping along is a big part of Rain.  If you are up for audience interaction, this is your show.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert
The story of Tick, Bernadette and Adam, a glamorous Sydney-based performing trio who agree to take their show to the middle of the Australian outback.  Priscilla is filled with incredibly imaginative and over-the-top costumes, drag makeup and dance numbers that maintain an energetic pulse throughout the show.
